Most people notice volume and firmness changes before they appear significant to anyone else. That's actually the best time to intervene. Early collagen induction is far more effective than trying to reverse significant loss after the fact. The work happens in the dermis, not at the surface.
The problem
Why surface treatments don't rebuild structure.
Collagen production declines by roughly 1% per year from the mid-twenties. The fibres that give skin its structure and bounce begin to thin and fragment. Topical collagen cannot penetrate to the dermis, as collagen molecules are too large. Retinoids stimulate surface turnover but don't address dermal remodelling. Real structural change requires controlled thermal or mechanical stimulation in the dermis itself.
