Nail Fungus
Nail fungus that tablets haven't fixed, or that you've avoided treating.
PM Aesthetics treats nail fungus (onychomycosis) using the Aerolase Neo Elite 1064nm laser, which penetrates the nail plate and destroys fungal tissue without oral antifungals or liver monitoring. Treatment typically requires 3–6 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart, supported by 18 published clinical studies.
Oral antifungals work, but they take 3–12 months and carry hepatotoxicity risk. Laser doesn't.
Onychomycosis affects roughly 1 in 10 Australians and is the most common nail disorder in adults. It is not a hygiene problem. It is a fungal infection seated beneath the nail plate, where most topical treatments cannot reach in clinically effective concentrations.
The problem
Why topical antifungals don't reach it.
The fungus in onychomycosis lives in the nail bed, beneath the nail plate. Topical antifungal solutions have to penetrate the nail plate to reach the infection, and nail plate permeability is poor. Most topicals achieve sub-therapeutic concentrations at the nail bed. Oral antifungals do reach the site but require months of daily tablets, carry liver toxicity risk requiring monitoring, and have drug interaction profiles that rule them out for many patients.
Diagnosis first
Assessment before treatment.
We assess nail involvement visually before treatment, mapping the extent of discolouration, nail plate thickening, and any subungual debris to determine session count and treatment coverage. More extensive onychomycosis requires more sessions and broader coverage per session.
The treatment
How laser treats nail fungus.
The Aerolase Neo Elite's 1064nm wavelength penetrates the nail plate and heats the fungal tissue selectively, disrupting the cell membranes of the dermatophyte organisms without damaging the surrounding nail bed. There are 18 published studies supporting 1064nm laser efficacy for onychomycosis. No systemic medication. No liver monitoring. No drug interactions.
